So Furbies are sort of a new obsession for me. I recently found one that my grandmother bought me back in 1998, when they were brand new and all the rage. It was a green eyed Red Wolf. It was one of two gifts she would ever give me, because we had always been so far apart.
I took the Furby out of the box, cleaned up a little bit of corrosion in the battery compartment and voila. She was talking and dancing again. Still my old Mimi, even after moving more than 6 times, one of those 2500 miles.
Right after she was working again, I thought "oh it's sort of lonely for her, wish I had a friend for her!"
It was then that I remembered that my late mother had kept one too. This one was a limited edition from Easter. I searched the entire garage looking in boxes until I found it, then as I took it out, I was so excited I almost cried. It was filthy, but it was HERS. When we put batteries in, though, the speaker didn't work.
Basically, long story short is that I'm apparently a Furby doctor now. My dad and I managed to perform a speaker transplant from a speaker I found online. He talks now. After all the pulling apart and fear I'd mess it up, it turned on and introduced itself in a masculine voice as KaDa. It promptly said "I love you." I wonder if that's a message from my mom, but I'm very excited to be playing and loving them again, both for Mom and for my grandmother who bought me Mimi. I can't bring myself to rename these two anything but what they named themselves.
I introduced them, and they danced and promptly fell asleep.
Here is a picture of

The Allure of Baluchari Silk Sarees: Crafting Beauty from Bengal
Baluchari silk sarees are more than just a piece of clothing; they are a testament to the rich cultural heritage and intricate craftsmanship of Bengal. Known for their breathtaking artistry, vibrant colors, and historical significance, these sarees are cherished not only in India but across the globe. The allure of Baluchari silk sarees lies in the delicate weave, the detailed motifs, and the timeless elegance that each piece embodies.
Tumblr media
A Glimpse into the History of Baluchari Silk Sarees
Baluchari silk sarees originate from the town of Baluchar in the Murshidabad district of West Bengal. The tradition of weaving these sarees dates back to the 18th century during the reign of the Nawabs of Bengal. These sarees were once worn by royalty and aristocrats, with the intricate designs and patterns reflecting their status and sophistication.
The weaving of Baluchari sarees involves a specialized technique known as jamdani weaving, a fine art that requires immense skill and patience. The motifs used in these sarees often depict mythological scenes, historical events, and elements from nature, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Bengal.
The Craftsmanship Behind Baluchari Silk Sarees
What sets Baluchari silk sarees apart from other sarees is the exquisite craftsmanship that goes into creating each piece. The sarees are woven on traditional handlooms using high-quality silk threads, which give them their characteristic softness, sheen, and luxurious texture.
One of the defining features of Baluchari silk sarees is the intricate pallu (the portion of the saree draped over the shoulder). The pallu often depicts elaborate motifs, including scenes from Hindu mythology such as Rama’s exile, Mahabharata battles, and Krishna’s leelas. These motifs are created using the jamdani technique, where the weaver intertwines the silk threads to form complex patterns that stand out from the rest of the fabric.
The borders of Baluchari sarees are equally noteworthy, often adorned with floral patterns, paisleys, and geometric designs. Each saree tells a story through its weave, showcasing the mastery of the artisan.
The Alluring Colors and Textures
Baluchari silk sarees are known for their rich, vibrant colors that range from deep maroons and emerald greens to bright reds and golds. The use of gold and silver zari (thread) adds a touch of opulence, giving the sarees a royal and luxurious feel. The interplay of these colors with the fine silk base creates a visual feast, making each saree not just a garment, but a work of art.
The texture of a Baluchari silk saree is another key aspect that enhances its allure. The silk used in these sarees is soft yet sturdy, with a rich sheen that gives it a regal appearance. The weight of the saree is typically heavy, which adds to its draping elegance, making it an ideal choice for special occasions and celebrations.
Why Baluchari Silk Sarees Are Special
Baluchari silk sarees are not merely a fashion statement; they are a symbol of culture, tradition, and artistry. The intricate motifs, the painstaking weaving process, and the vibrant colors make these sarees a prized possession for anyone who appreciates the finer aspects of craftsmanship.
For many, wearing a Baluchari silk saree is a way to connect with the cultural richness of Bengal. Whether it’s a wedding, festival, or any special occasion, these sarees add a touch of sophistication and grandeur that is unmatched by any other fabric. The allure of Baluchari silk sarees is in their timeless beauty and their ability to reflect the deep cultural roots of India’s weaving traditions.
How to Style a Baluchari Silk Saree
Baluchari silk sarees, with their opulence and grandeur, are perfect for formal events such as weddings, traditional festivals, and family gatherings. Pair them with traditional gold jewelry, such as heavy necklaces, jhumkas (earrings), and kadas (bracelets) to elevate the overall look. A simple, yet elegant, hairdo like a bun or pleats, along with makeup that accentuates the eyes and lips, can complete the classic, regal look.
For a modern twist, one can opt for contemporary accessories such as metallic clutch bags and statement heels, giving the saree a more versatile, fusion appearance. With its timeless elegance, a Baluchari silk saree can transcend generations, continuing to be a sought-after piece for fashion lovers and collectors alike.
Conclusion
Baluchari silk sarees are more than just garments—they are a piece of Bengal’s rich cultural heritage. Woven with centuries of history, intricate designs, and unparalleled craftsmanship, these sarees are a true symbol of elegance, grace, and artistic mastery. Whether you are a collector, a connoisseur of fine textiles, or someone looking for a statement piece for a special occasion, the allure of a Baluchari silk saree is undeniable.

significance of green bangles
The steel kada is a simple yet powerful accessory, commonly worn by Sikhs and individuals of various backgrounds for its cultural significance, physical benefits, and symbolic meaning. Originating in Sikhism, the kada is a circular bangle typically made of steel, representing strength, unity, and an unbreakable bond with ethical values. Beyond its cultural meaning, the steel kada is also considered beneficial for physical health and mental well-being. Here’s a closer look at the multifaceted benefits of wearing a steel kada.
1. Cultural Significance and Personal Symbolism
The steel kada holds a prominent place in Sikh culture and is one of the "Five Ks" worn by Sikhs to symbolize commitment to their faith and values. For Sikhs, the kada is a constant reminder of the virtues of honesty, humility, and compassion. Its circular shape, with no beginning or end, represents eternity and the continuity of life, reminding the wearer to stay connected to their roots and values. Even beyond Sikhism, the kada is appreciated by people from different cultures who wear it as a symbol of strength, protection, and resilience. Wearing a steel kada serves as a reminder of the importance of ethical living, unity, and the resilience required to face life’s challenges.
2. Health Benefits: Improved Blood Circulation and Joint Health
Wearing a steel kada is believed to offer certain health benefits, although these are rooted more in traditional beliefs than scientific studies. One commonly suggested benefit is its potential to improve blood circulation. When worn on the wrist, the kada applies gentle pressure to the pulse points, which may help stimulate blood flow in the hand and fingers. This improved circulation could be particularly helpful for those who experience stiffness or discomfort in their wrists or hands. For some wearers, the steel kada may even offer relief from minor joint pains, as it helps maintain natural movement in the wrist area.
3. Emotional Well-being: Grounding and Calming Effects
Steel is considered a grounding material, associated with stability and focus. Wearing a steel kada can be calming, promoting emotional balance by providing a sense of connection to one's values and grounding energy. The kada’s weight and presence on the wrist act as a gentle reminder to remain present, mindful, and connected to personal beliefs and traditions. This grounding effect can be especially helpful during stressful or overwhelming situations, giving the wearer a sense of inner strength and resilience.
4. Hypoallergenic and Durable Material
One practical benefit of a steel kada is that it is hypoallergenic and safe for most skin types, unlike some metals that can cause irritation or allergic reactions. Stainless steel is a popular choice for kadas because of its durability and resistance to rust and tarnish. This makes it ideal for everyday wear, as it can withstand regular activities and still maintain its shine and quality over time. Wearing a steel kada ensures that you don’t have to worry about skin reactions, making it suitable for both sensitive and active individuals.
5. Spiritual and Mental Benefits
Many people wear a steel kada to strengthen their sense of self-discipline and focus. The kada acts as a reminder to adhere to one’s values, encouraging moral integrity and ethical living. For those who practice mindfulness, the kada can serve as a focal point during meditation, enhancing spiritual growth. The simplicity of the kada, combined with its strong symbolism, allows wearers to feel more connected to their spiritual journey and personal purpose.
6. Versatility and Style
Beyond its health and cultural benefits, the steel kada is a versatile piece that complements a wide range of outfits, from traditional attire to modern styles. Its understated design allows it to be worn by people of all ages, genders, and styles, making it an appealing accessory for many. The simplicity of the steel kada adds a unique charm, letting it serve as a subtle statement of strength and identity without drawing excessive attention.
In conclusion, the steel kada is more than just an accessory; it’s a meaningful piece that embodies cultural heritage, emotional grounding, and physical wellness. Whether worn for religious, personal, or health-related reasons, the steel kada carries a unique blend of significance that enhances the life of the wearer. It serves as a constant reminder of resilience, inner strength, and values, making it a valuable part of daily life for many people across the world.

That night the blue of the inside of the jeepney looked so vivid to my eyes. i wanted to take a photograph but i got shy. the blue just…glows and reaks towards the outisde of the jeep. vivid, too, then, in my eyes were the warm glow of the vehicle and establishment and street lights that night… i got shy. and i thought i'd forget to write about it but here i am now.
and why i thought about that now: right now my room is (playing right now: A1 - It's just a burning memory by The Caretaker) lit up blue and green. i have to. because beside me, 45 degrees of my window is the window of a man we suspect schizophrenic who has been having major episodes for days now. the first month i moved in here i was already listening to him rant and rant and rant. anyway. i am reading on my laptop screen and i just set my nightlight settings to maximum. now, it is yellow. contrasting the blue green lighting of my room. why i remembered that night that we were on our way to the airport. you left for your airplane. to thailand. and i got back home alone. at home i was obssesively tracking your flight. how many feet above me you were. how many miles you are away from me. how many more minutes left until the plane's declared arrival.

The Artistry Unveiled: Crafting Glass Kada Bangles from Sand to Splendor.
Introduction:
Glass kada bangles are more than just accessories; they are a testament to the age-old craft of glassmaking. The process of creating these stunning pieces involves a delicate dance between skilled artisans and the transformative properties of glass. In this blog post, we'll delve into the intricate journey of making glass kada bangles, from raw materials to the final, dazzling product.
Raw Materials: Sand to Silica:
The journey begins with the humblest of materials – sand. This silica-rich substance forms the foundation for glass. The sand is meticulously cleaned to remove impurities, creating a pure base for the glassmaking process.
Melting the Glass:
The cleaned sand is then heated to extremely high temperatures, transforming it into molten glass. This mesmerizing liquid is the canvas upon which artisans will weave their artistry. The heat required for this process is often generated by a mixture of natural gas and oxygen in a furnace, reaching temperatures upwards of 1700 degrees Celsius.
Shaping and Forming:
Once in its molten state, the glass is shaped and formed into the desired design. For kada bangles, the glass is carefully molded into cylindrical shapes. Artisans use a combination of traditional techniques and modern tools to achieve precision in their creations.
Coloring the Glass:
The magic of glass kada bangles lies in their vibrant hues. Coloring the glass involves the addition of metal oxides or other pigments during the melting process. This step requires skill and precision to achieve the desired color palette. The choice of colors can vary from traditional blues and greens to contemporary shades, reflecting the ever-evolving trends.
Cooling and Annealing:
Once the glass has been shaped and colored, it is slowly cooled to room temperature in a controlled environment. This process, known as annealing, reduces internal stresses in the glass, enhancing its strength and durability. Proper annealing is crucial to ensure that the finished bangles do not crack or break easily.
Cutting and Polishing:
After cooling, the glass is cut into individual bangle-sized pieces. These pieces undergo further refinement through polishing, which gives the bangles their signature smooth and glossy finish. Skilled artisans use various tools to achieve the perfect shape and shine, showcasing the craftsmanship that goes into each piece.
Final Touches:
The last step involves any additional embellishments or designs that may be added to the glass kada bangles. This could include intricate patterns, etching, or the application of decorative elements to enhance the overall aesthetic appeal.
